Yeshe Tsogyal, who lived in 8th century Tibet, is the most eminent female saint in Tibetan Buddhist history.  Revered as a female Buddha within the Nyingma lineage, Yeshe Tsogyal is regarded as the quintessential expression of enlightened feminine wisdom.  She is considered to have attained the highest levels of realization in her lifetime - equal even to that of her own illustrious master, Guru Padmasambhava.  As his principle consort and most devoted disciple, Yeshe Tsogyal is credited for compiling Guru Padmasambhava's teachings through the power of her immaculate memory, and for concealing his Terma treasures throughout Tibet.

The subjects depicted in this thanka are derived from Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche's mind treasure of Yeshe Tsogyal, entitled Khandro Thug Thig, or "Heart Drops of the Dakini".  Yeshe Tsogyal appears in Nirmanakaya form with a retinue of three Dakini's as depicted in the foreground: red Kuru Kulle, blue Singhamukha and blue-black Troma Nagmo, who represent her own inner, secret, and super secret aspects respectively.  Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche appears in the top right corner, while his predecessor, Dudjom Lingpa, is depicted in the top left corner.  Guru Padmasambhava, in red Sambhogakaya form, adorns her crown.  This Yeshe Tsogyal Khandro Thug Thik composition is per Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche's original design instructions.
